Swipey AI Character Atlas
Choosing a Swipey AI character beyond the portrait
Use an ordinary fictional exchange to examine personality, responsiveness and recent context before judging a character.
Read for behavior, not a list of adjectives
A character description becomes useful when it predicts how a reply should behave. “Curious” might mean asking a relevant follow-up. “Concise” might mean answering a narrow question without an unrelated monologue. Choose two observable traits and keep them in your notes. A profile with many appealing words can still leave the conversational role unclear.
The Swipey getting-started collection includes product and account explanations. Read those before assuming that a character card, a custom creation and a creator offering have identical controls.
Give the character a harmless task
Invent an adult librarian planning a small book discussion. Ask for two contrasting choices and state that the group prefers short chapters. The point is not to obtain expert advice; it is to see whether the response uses the request. A neutral scenario lets you examine the interaction without revealing a real routine, relationship or location.
Keep your first message short enough that a missing constraint is easy to notice. If the answer ignores the chapter preference, record the omission rather than adding several new instructions at once.
Change one thing and revisit it
After several turns, correct a harmless detail: the meeting is now indoors rather than in a garden. Ask a question whose answer depends on the correction. Distinguish a direct answer, a generic answer and a contradiction. One correct reply proves one observation, not unlimited memory.
If you repeat the exercise, keep the fictional character and question stable. Changing the role, tone and task together makes the cause of a different answer difficult to interpret.
Decide what the profile actually established
Use a short summary: the character followed two constraints, missed one correction, and produced a coherent answer on a repeat question. That record says more than an unsupported star score. The same character may behave differently with a longer exchange, a different model or changed settings.
Stop when you have enough information for the question you began with. An endless chat is not a better controlled test. If the result does not suit your intended ordinary conversation, that is a useful conclusion.
A practical record
| Observation | What to write |
|---|---|
| Tone | A specific phrase or response behavior, without personal information |
| Relevance | Which requested constraint the answer used or missed |
| Continuity | Whether the corrected fictional detail affected a later reply |
A character is a conversational pattern as well as a visual profile. Keep the evidence attached to the exchange you actually observed.
